AI visibility

Copilot reads the web through Bing. Here's what that means for your store.

Copilot grounds its answers in Bing's index, so the work that makes a store readable to any assistant applies. Nomu audits that groundwork — and does not yet measure Copilot citations, which this page says plainly.

Microsoft Copilot grounds shopping answers in Bing's index, so a Shopify store becomes eligible through the same groundwork every assistant needs — crawlable pages, explicit product facts and complete structured data — though Nomu does not currently run citation probes against Copilot.

How Copilot discovers and understands products

Grounded in Bing

Copilot's answers draw on Bing's web index rather than a separate AI crawl, so being indexed and readable by a conventional search crawler is the entry condition.

No separate opt-out token

Unlike GPTBot or Google-Extended, there is no widely observed Copilot-specific agent to permit or block. Access follows from ordinary search crawlability, which is why Nomu lists no Copilot crawler check.

Structured data does the same job

Price, availability and brand stated as data are as useful here as anywhere else — they let a constrained question be answered with confidence rather than omitted.

A real question a shopper asks Copilot

office-appropriate fragrance that isn't overpowering, under 200 AED

A subjective constraint plus a price ceiling. It is won by copy that addresses intensity and setting — something most fragrance listings never mention.

Signals that may improve visibility

  • Ordinary search crawlability — no blanket Disallow, no bot challenge on product pages
  • A current sitemap, declared in robots.txt
  • Complete Product structured data with price, currency and availability
  • Product descriptions that state filterable attributes explicitly
  • Plain-language shipping and returns pages
  • Server-rendered content rather than client-side-only rendering

These improve whether Copilot can read and verify your products. No tool can guarantee that an assistant recommends you — answers are non-deterministic and no vendor sells placement in them.

What Nomu measures for Copilot today

Crawler access checkedNot engine-specific
Citation probesNot yet
Revenue attributionReferrer — high confidence
Site audit applies14 crawlers, schema, content

Nomu does not probe Copilot and does not check a Copilot-specific crawler directive, because its retrieval runs through Bing's index rather than a dedicated AI agent token. What Nomu audits — crawler access generally, structured data, product content, discovery files — is upstream of Copilot, but no citation measurement for it exists in the product today.

What Nomu can detect

The audit runs nightly and reports only what it can prove.

AI crawler blocked in robots.txt

critical

An assistant's crawler is disallowed, so nothing else about the store can matter to it. Binary, and the first thing checked.

No llms.txt or agents.md

medium

No plain-language guide to what the store sells, so the catalogue has to be inferred by crawling.

Product structured data missing or incomplete

high

Price, currency, availability or brand absent, so a hard constraint like "under $30 and in stock" cannot be verified.

Product descriptions too thin to answer a question

high

Descriptions that state a name and a size answer no buyer constraint, so the product is retrievable for nothing.

Titles, meta descriptions or image alt text missing

medium

The fields that tell a crawler what a page and its images are, left empty.

No FAQ or policy page an assistant can quote

medium

Shipping, returns and sizing questions have no answerable page to cite.

Collection pages with no descriptive text

low

Category pages that list products without saying what the category is or who it suits.

What a fix looks like

The same product, rewritten so Copilot can match it to a question.

Before

Signature Eau de Parfum. 100ml. Luxury scent.

Matches nothing — no attribute a buyer filters on.

After

A light citrus-and-cedar eau de parfum at 8% concentration — close-wearing rather than projecting, which makes it suitable for the office and for shared spaces. 100ml, 180 AED. Vegan and cruelty-free.

Nomu drafts the rewrite from your own product data. Nothing publishes until you approve it, and every change is reversible for 30 days.

Fixes Nomu can generate

Rewrite a product description

Drafts a description built from the attributes buyers filter on — material, fit, use case, care — from your own product data.

Fill in title, meta description and image alt text

Generates the SEO fields a product is missing, per product, for your approval.

Add Product structured data

Emits schema.org Product markup with price, currency, availability and brand populated per variant.

Create an FAQ page

Builds an FAQ from your real policies and the questions your customers actually ask.

Publish llms.txt

Writes a plain-text guide describing what you sell, to whom, and which pages are canonical.

Write a collection description

Describes what is in a category and who it suits, so the collection page can be retrieved.

Tracking improvement over time

Nomu tracks readiness for Copilot, and says so rather than implying more.

Nomu re-runs the site audit after every change and shows what moved: crawler access, structured-data completeness, description coverage. It does not report Copilot citations, because it does not measure them.
